How To Make 2012 Your Best Year Ever

With this being my first post of the year, I'd like to kick off with something motivational. Something that gives you... food for thought!

There's an old saying, something about making today the 1st day of the rest of your life! I believe this saying has a lot to do with the idea of casting off old undesired habits, letting go of all that negative self talk that we as humans are often predisposed to and as the late Jim Rohn would say..."set yourself a new sail for the future, a future designed by you!".

I personally believe that this year can and will be the best year of your life, if you so choose. I say that readily because for this to come true, I believe all you need and must have are two things, and they must both come from your heart.

The 1st is to have a strong desire for change...

The 2nd, Finding your WHY!

Let's call it, "the why that makes you cry". We all have one of these and if you sit with this for a while and truly think on it, you will shortly form your own, very strong why.

When you develop your why and keep it at the forefront of your mind as you strive to achieve your goals and desires for this year, it will act as a fuel that powers you through those inevitable lows we all experience from time to time.

For those of us (myself included), who sometimes think that things just couldn't get any worse, when we're stuck at a crossroad or we think the world has conspired against us, take a few moments...right now, to check out this video of Amy Purdy. It might make you think again!

I don't know about you, but I personally intend to make 2012 my most rewarding year ever. That's in all areas of my life; physical, mental, emotional and financial. Sure I've had some great years and some monumental achievements during those years, however if I have a look at a lot of the things I achieved with total honesty, they may have had more to do with circumstance and luck than a by design.

So here's 6 things best selling author Steven Covey recommends you do right now to make 2012 your best year ever.

Be proactive... It's more than just taking initiative. It means being responsible for your own life.. Empower yourself to lead and spread your influence no matter what position you hold.
Sharpen the saw... Decide what's truly important. Sharpen your saw early in the day by learning to say no to the unimportant and yes to the highly important.
Seek to understand before seeking to be understood... It's human nature to want to be understood, but when both parties are trying to be understood, neither party is listening. By making an investment to understand the other party, you can magically transform the course of your conversations.
Begin with the end in mind... Start today with an image of the end of your life as the frame of reference by which everything else is examined. With a clear idea of where you are going, examine everything in the context of what matters to you most.
Develop a vision mission statement... Get a deep sense of your life's mission, purpose and value system, then establish your goals and a system of accountability that keeps you on track.
Think win-win... There is enough success for everyone, so dont view another persons success as success achieved at your expense or exclusion.
